The corridor developed at Mahakaleshwar temple is knows as Mahakal Lok. It is situated in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The Shree Mahakal Lok is a Corridor being developed under Smart City Mission of Ujjain. The corridor is developed by the government to increase the religious tourism in Ujjain. It provides the devotees with spacious and aesthetic route to the Mahakaleshwar temple. This 900 meter long passage stands as a live testament to craftsmanship and spiritual glory.

Investment
The Corridor is being developed at the cost of 856 crore. It is a step forward in the direction of making Ujjain a religious tourism hub for connecting people with culture and traditions.
The first first phase of the ‘Shri Mahakal Lok corridor was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹351 crore. It was inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi on October 11, 2022.
Employment and Economy
The daily footfall of devotees has increased from 40000 to 1 lakh on weekdays going up to 1.5 to 2.5 lakh on weekends after the creation of Mahakal Lok. This has lead to 1.5 fold increase in the temple related job as reported by Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee (MTMC). The Mahakal corridor has also boosted the revenue of Ujjain Municipal Corporation’s as the revenue collected from property and hotel taxes increased from ₹220.91 crore in 2022 to ₹370.28 crore 2024. Ujjain has also seen a boom in the property sector due to Mahakal corridor as commercial and private property prices has increased by 3 to 8 time.

The corridor was developed under Ujjain Smart City Limited with Ashish Kumar Pathak overseeing it’s implementation as CEO.
Lighting Show at Mahakal Corridor
Light and sound show is hosted at Mahakal lok at Lotus Pond. The play displays to the stories of Ujjain’s history and mythology. It is designed by the use of technology like Water screen, laser and projection mapping. The show is bilingual (Hindi and English) and timing for the show is daily 8:00 PM to 8:40 PM.
Experience at Mahakal Lok corridor
As you walk into the Mahakal lok you are welcome by two majestic entrance Nandi Dwar & Pinaki Dwar. At Nandi dwar you will witness a black-stone statue of Lord Shiva’s bull, Nandi. Seperate by some distance stands Pinaki Dwar an another ornate gateway leading into the corridor.
As you walk through the corridor you will see 108 Ornate Sandstone Pillars. Each pillar is depicts the scenes from Shiva Purana and is handcrafted by artisans from Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Odisha. The corridor is further ornamented with 53 murals and 190 sculptures depicting stories from Shiv Puran, Shiv Vivah, Tripurasur Vadh and of Lord Shiva in various forms like Nataraja and Mahakal.
The corridor is equipped with all the morden like CCTV cameras, PA systems and seperate lane for E-vehicle for golf carts and emergency vehicles .
